How to Teach Kids Time Management Skills?

Once there was a beetle during a forest whose name was Lazy. The habitants of the forest were very industrious and that they also wont to give importance to their time except the beetle. Lazy wont to spend his whole day by roaming in several parts of the land. Once he saw an ant collecting food and storing it to the ant hill. Lazy laughed at the ant. The angry ant asked beetle to store some food for the winter season so that he need not to suffer from starvation in the winter. Lazy didn’t listen to the ant and moved on his way. When the winter season appeared, the beetle started feeling starved because of scarcity of food. Lazy somehow managed to collect some food, but these were not sufficient for the whole winter. Lazy become very weak out of starvation and one day fall down from the tree branch and broke his legs. The ant that once Lazy laughed at saw him and with the help of other ants carried Lazy to the ant hill. There the ant feed him and after some days Lazy got his sense back. This incident taught Lazy the importance of time.

“Time and tide waits for none”. It is truly put by our elder generation that once time is lost cannot be regained. A proper time management can help in minimizing work pressure. And it is also very important to work efficiently in this fast moving era. Managing time is an art and it should be learned in a very early age so that it can turn into habit. Following a particular routine in life can help us in saving more time and become more productive in our works.

Time management chart, analogue or digital clocks, timer, daily planner are some of the tools that parents and teachers can use to make kids aware of the time management skills. Children always learn better by experiencing things practically. So here are some of the tips for parents to help their kids in their time management task:-

1-Make a planner with dates and enough space where kids can write their assignments, tests or projects to be done. By this way kids can better plan their activities

2-Write down the major tasks or assignments in bold letters so that these can catch your kids’ notice each time. Update the planner once the work is done

3-There should be fix timings for sleeping, playing, studying and eating apart from other activities. These are the major tasks that we do each day

4-Ask your child to suggest you some time saving tips. By this way kids would be encouraged to manage their time properly

5-Studying smaller amounts of information for several days is more effective than one marathon all-nighter. So kids should be encouraged to finish their home works in due time so that they would not become a burden in the eleventh hour.

We have the opportunity to help our children use their time wisely, over and over and over again. We need to grab this opportunity, and see it as a training aspect in our children’s lives.
